Jean Joseph was born on December 18th, 1891 in Tilleur. Jean Joseph's father was Petrus Gerardus Gaethofs and his mother was Marie Joséphine Hélène Streel. His paternal grandparents were Augustinus Gerardus Augustus Gaethofs and Anna Catherina Bussé. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Auguste Gerard, Victor Gustave, Jean Louis, Henri Hubert, François Clovis, Pol, Marie Alphonsine, Josephine Marie, Suzanne Hubertine Marie and Clothilde Elodie. He was the oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 25 on April 19th, 1917 in Luik.¹
