Auguste Gerard was born on July 21st, 1894 in Saint-Nicolas Luik. Auguste Gerard's father was Petrus Gerardus Gaethofs and his mother was Marie Joséphine Hélène Streel. His paternal grandparents were Augustinus Gerardus Augustus Gaethofs and Anna Catherina Bussé. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Jean Joseph, Victor Gustave, Jean Louis, Henri Hubert, François Clovis, Pol, Marie Alphonsine, Josephine Marie, Suzanne Hubertine Marie and Clothilde Elodie. He died at the age of 22 on October 29th, 1916 in Amay.
