Myrtle was born in 1899.  Myrtle's father was Joseph Lewis Van Winkle and her mother was Elizabeth Purvis.  Her paternal grandparents were William Washington Van Winkle and Louetta Azbill; her maternal grandparents were H. James Purvis and Nancy Elizabeth Azbill.  She was the oldest of three children.  She had two brothers named Ellis and Stanley Forest.  She died at the age of 89 in 1988.
