Norma was born in 1890.  Norma's father was William Campbell Purvis and her mother was Susan Bicknell.  Her paternal grandparents were H. James Purvis and Nancy Elizabeth Azbill; her maternal grandparents were Sylvester W. Bicknell and Nancy Rose Bicknell.  She was the oldest of eight children.  She had four brothers and three sisters, named Talmage, Sylvestor, Everett, Elmer, Nancy, Naomi and Malissa.
