Alexander was born in 1878.  Alexander's father was Oliver Horace Perry and his mother was Emily Ann Azbill.  His maternal grandparents were James Azbill and Mahala Jane Bicknell.  He was the fourth of five children.  He had four sisters named Martha Luletta, Cordelia, Dora and Mahala Elizabeth.
