Jarvis was born on January 18th, 1788.  Jarvis' father was John Jackson Jr. and his mother was Mary Forest Hancock.  His paternal grandparents were John Sr. Jackson and Mary Elizabeth Hodges.  He was the second of nine children.  He had seven brothers and a sister, named Humphrey Tunsil, George E., William, Hancock Lee, Lee, John H., Stephen Marshall and Minerva Catherine.  He died at the age of 95 in 1883.
