Hancock Lee was born on May 12th, 1796.  Hancock Lee's father was John Jackson Jr. and his mother was Mary Forest Hancock.  His paternal grandparents were John Sr. Jackson and Mary Elizabeth Hodges.  He was the sixth of nine children.  He had seven brothers and a sister, named Humphrey Tunsil, Jarvis, George E., William, Lee, John H., Stephen Marshall and Minerva Catherine.  He died at the age of 80 in 1876.
