James I. was born in 1865.  James I.'s father was Isaac Franklin Sr. Jackson and his mother was Maranda Jane Hall.  His paternal grandparents were William Jackson and Sarah Sally McSwain; his maternal grandparents were James Hall and Mary Polly Bellis.  He was the fifth of seven children.  He had two brothers and four sisters, named Cassuis, Isaac Franklin, Sarah Jane, Louisiana, Marinda E. and Rosa Bell.
