John was born in 1816.  John's father was Linsfield Bicknell and his mother was Mary Paulina Asbell.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Bicknell and Anne Parks; his maternal grandparents were John Asbell and Mary Elizabeth Coyle.  He was the second of fourteen children.  He had seven brothers and six sisters, named Perry C., Hiram, Hutson, Harrison, Tyre, Patterson, William R., Serelda, Samaria, Mary Martha, Paulina, Nancy Rose and Elizabeth T..  Perry C. and John were twins.
