Ancil D. was born in 1832.  Ancil D.'s father was Joseph Asbell and his mother was Mary Paulina or Polly Harp.  His paternal grandparents were William Asbell Sr. and Elizabeth Moore.  He was the tenth of fifteen children.  He had six brothers and eight sisters, named John, James, William, Ross I., Levi, Wilson D., Lydia, Elizabeth, Ann, Surrilda, Nancy, Louisa, Lucinda R. and Charlotte.  He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William, David Warren, John, Joseph, Nancy and Sarah Ann.
