Arent was born on November 30th, 1845 in Steenderen. Arent's father was Gerrit Jan Engbers and his mother was Jantjen Berendina Zemmelink.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Arend Engbers and Catharina (Catrina) Garritz Wijers; his maternal grandparents were Garrit Zemmelink and Garritjen Jolink. He had a brother and two sisters, named Karel, Catharina and Berendina.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 8 on May 23rd, 1854 in Steenderen.
