Rijkert was born on August 1st, 1821 in Ermelo.1  Rijkert's father was Hendrik Riksen Schipper and his mother was Maartje Aarts / Aartsen van Spiek.  His maternal grandparents were Aart Abrahamsen van Spiek and Grietje / Aaltje Jacobs. He had four brothers and a sister, named Aart, Aart, Rijkert, Abraham and Aart.  He was the second youngest of the six children.
