Marten was born on October 12th, 1794 in Zelhem.1  Marten's father was Harmen Wesselink and his mother was Meintjen /Mientjen (Mientjen) Bruggink (Meulenkamp).  His paternal grandparents were Willem Wisselink (op Hols) and Meintjen Wassink; his maternal grandparents were Berend Bruggink (alias Molenkamp / Meulenkamp) and Stiene (Christina) (Stijntje) Molenkamp. He had four brothers and a sister, named Berend, Gerrit, Garrit Jan, Derk Jan and Stijntjen / Christina.  He was the oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother named Harmen.  He died at the age of 44 on January 3rd, 1839 in Zelhem.2
