Jan's father was Berent Sonderlo and his mother was Mechtelt.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Sonderlo and Vrouw / Moeder. He had two brothers and nine sisters, named Alof, Hendrick, Hendersken, Hendersken, Geertjen, Aeltjen, Mette, Jenneken, Jenneken, Elsken and Trijne.
