Elsken's father was Berent Sonderlo and her mother was Mechtelt.  Her paternal grandparents were Jan Sonderlo and Vrouw / Moeder. She had three brothers and eight sisters, named Alof, Hendrick, Jan, Hendersken, Hendersken, Geertjen, Aeltjen, Mette, Jenneken, Jenneken and Trijne.
