Garret was born in 1764 in Zelhem, Netherlands.  Garret's father was Hendricus Priesterink (of Grootwanninkhage) and his mother was Wesseltjen Klaapsink.  His maternal grandparents were Lambert Claapsink and Geesken. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Hendrik, Aalbert, Gart, Lammertjen, Wesseltjen, Janna / Jannij and Bernardina.  He died at the age of 73 on May 24th, 1837 in Halle, Netherlands.1
