Marinus was born on January 21st, 1905.  Marinus' father was Severinus (Sevrinus) Johannes Kempers and his mother was Frederika Hartemink.  His paternal grandparents were Albert Kempers and Hendrika Bosboom; his maternal grandparents were Johannes Hartemink and Gerharda Hendrika Tiekken. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Albertus Johannes, Gerrit Hendrik, Frederik, Herman, Bernardus, Grada Hendrika, Maria Frederika and NN.  He was the youngest of the nine children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Gerrit Jan and Hendrika Johanna.
