Gerrit Jan was born in 1751.  Gerrit Jan's father was Derk Jan Hilferink and his mother was Jenneke  Jolink.  His paternal grandparents were Derk Jan / Gosen Hilferink and Vrouw / Moeder; his maternal grandparents were Jan Jolinck (Joolinck) and Aaltjen. He had six brothers and six sisters, named Henrik / Hendrik Jan, Berend, Willem, Gerrit Jan, Harmen, Harmen, Maria, Liesken, Jenneken, Jenneken, Berendje and Derse.  He was the third youngest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 44 in 1795.
