Mechelt was born on October 12th, 1721 in Silvolde.1  Mechelt's father was Harmen Brussen (Brus) and her mother was Hendersken Biermans.  Her paternal grandparents were Jan Brussen and Mechteld Brunsincks; her maternal grandparents were Berent Bierman and Vrouw / Moeder. She had three brothers and a sister, named Garrit Jan, Berent, Hermanus and Johanna.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
