Isaac was born on December 18th, 1729 in Amsterdam and his baptism took place in Amsterdam, Amstelkerk.1   His godfather was Isaac van der Sel and his godmother was Martijntje Hendriks. Isaac's father was Abraham van der Sel (Zel) and his mother was Antie / Antje Berkhoff.  His maternal grandparents were Man / Vader Berkhoff and Vrouw / Moeder. He had a brother and a sister, named Willem and Anna.  He was the oldest of the three children.
