Jan was born on July 1st, 1804 in Haarlem.1  Jan's father was Pieter de Nobel and his mother was Elizabeth Bogaard.  His paternal grandparents were Philippus / Phillip de Nobel and Aagje Hambeek; his maternal grandparents were Jan Abrahamsz Bogaard (Bogaart / Bogert) and Christina (Stijntje) Perzoon (Persoon / Perssoon). He had three brothers and three sisters, named Christina Johanna, Pieter, Hendrik, Elisabeth, Johanna Maria and Sara / Saartje.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 67 on March 25th, 1872 in Haarlem.2
