Jacob was born in 1802.  Jacob's father was Jan Tamisse / Tamis de Groot and his mother was Trijntje Jacobsdr Pijper.  His paternal grandparents were Tamis de Groot and Maartje Klerk / Clerck; his maternal grandparents were Jacob Eliasz Pijper and Duijfje Jacobs Heijn. He had four brothers named Thamis, Jacob, Klaas and Simon.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
