Dirk was born in 1797. Dirk's father was Dirk Claasz Brantjes / Brandjes / Brandtjes and his mother was Antje Dirkze Wulbertze Duijn.  His paternal grandparents were Klaas Dirkze and Trijntje Krelis (Cornelisse). He had three brothers and four sisters, named Klaas, Dirk, Crelis, Maartje, Trijntje, Elisabeth and Maartje.  Crelis and Dirk were twins. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Alida, Arie, Maria and Aagje.  He died at the age of 11 in 1808.
