Jan was born in 1784.  Jan's father was Jan Abramsz Bart and his mother was Cornelisje (Crelisje) Hendriksd (Zwier).  His paternal grandparents were Abraham Allertsz and Sijbrig (Sijbrecht) Joosten (Joostens / Joostes). He had two brothers and three sisters, named Dirk, Cornelis, Lijsbet, Jantje and Sijbrecht. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Jan and Trijntje.
