James was born in 1858.  James' father was John Marsh and his mother was Elizabeth Gobey. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Arthur, Samuel, John, William Stephen, Elizabeth Sarah, Lydia Hannah, Emma Jessie, Mary Eleanor and Francis Naomi.  He was the oldest of the ten children.  He died about 1858.
