Mary was born on January 28th, 1855 in Edinburgh, Scotland.1  Mary's father was John WIGHTMAN and her mother was Margaret VIPOND.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas VIPOND and Jean BORLAND. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Margaret and Isabella.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
