Stanley was born on November 7th, 1896 in Brompton, Adel, SA.1   Stanley's father was James WHITING and his mother was Charlotte MEDLOW.  His maternal grandparents were Samuel MEDLOW and Charlotte BOSTON. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Herbert, Edward, Albert, Edith, Amy and Elsie.  He was the youngest of the seven known children.
