Robert was born on June 1st, 1864 in Edinburgh, Scotland.1  Robert's father was Archibald VIPOND and his mother was Barbara DUNCAN.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas VIPOND and Jean BORLAND. He had five brothers and a sister, named Archibald, Thomas, George, William, Charles and Barbara.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
