Barbara was born on October 24th, 1858 in Edinburgh, Scotland.1  Barbara's father was Archibald VIPOND and her mother was Barbara DUNCAN.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas VIPOND and Jean BORLAND. She had six brothers named Archibald, Thomas, George, William, Robert and Charles.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
