William was born on February 20th, 1912.  William's father was William Edward Oakes and his mother was Julia (Flora) Florina Egloff/Oakes.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Parks Oakes and Elizabeth McCary/Oakes.  He had four brothers named Irving, Kenneth, Arthur and Harlan.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 79 on December 31st, 1991 in Louisville, KY.  The funeral was arranged by Arch L. Heady & Son, Louisville, KY.  His burial was in Resthaven Mausoleum, Louisville, KY.
