Simon was born in 1809 in North Lophan, Norfolk, England.1   Simon's father was John Carman and his mother was Elizabeth Hunt/Carman.  His paternal grandparents were John Carman and Mary Crowfoot/Carman.  He had three sisters named Elizabeth, Barbara Ann and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named John, John and Ruth.  He died at the age of 74 on March 7th, 1883 in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.1
