Christopher was born on May 28th, 1820 in England.  Christopher's father was Robert Carman and his mother was Elizabeth Collingwood/Carman.  His paternal grandparents were John Carman and Mary Crowfoot/Carman.  He had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Robert, William, James, Ruth, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Elizabeth.  He was the eighth oldest of the nine children.  He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Patrick and Mary Ann.  He died at the age of 48 in 1868.
