His paternal grandparents were Jacub CHYBA and Frantiska MALY; his maternal grandparents were John TOMAN and Antonia ZITKA. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John William (Chyba), Joseph M. (Chyba), Frances (Chyba), Mary Helen (Marie) (Chyba), Anne Agnes (Chyba) and Eleanor Amelia (Chyba). He was the third youngest of the seven children.
