Edwin Howard was born on October 13th, 1923 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Edwin Howard's father was Joseph M. (Chyba) HIBER and his mother was Henrietta (Hermie) Petronila CHALOUPKA. His paternal grandparents were SR. CHYBA and Emalie (Emma) TOMAN; his maternal grandparents were Anton CHALOUPKA and Petronila JANDA. He was an only child. He died at the age of 83 on January 31st, 2007 in Fresno, California.General Notes
EDWIN HOWARD HIBER, 83, Fresno, CA,died Jan. 31, 2007. Hiber was born on Oct.13, 1923, in Plattsmouth, the only child ofJoseph Matthew Hiber and Henrietta“Hermie” (Chaloupka) Hiber. All four ofHiber’s grandparents were immigrants fromMoravia, which now is a part of the CzechRepublic. He attended the College ofEngineering at the University of Nebraska, and at the onset ofWorld War II he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve.He served in the Navy V-12 program at Iowa State Universityand received an honorable discharge from the Navy in August1945. He then returned to Iowa State and graduated in 1946with a B.S. degree in aeronautical engineering. He was thenemployed in the engineering department of North AmericanAviation in Inglewood, CA as a mathematician and stress analyst. In the fall of 1947, Hiber began study at the Universityof Nebraska College of Law, where he was awarded a JurisDoctor degree in 1950 and was admitted to the Nebraska StateBar Association, and in 1951 to the State Bar of California.He then engaged in the practice of law in Los Angeles andFresno. Hiber was a member of the bar for well over a halfcentury and felt honored and fortunate to have had the opportunity to be a lawyer and to serve his clients and the law.Hiber was elected a fellow of the Nebraska State BarFoundation and served on a number of committees of the StateBar of California. He is survived by: his loving wife of 55 years,Mary Kathleen (McCormick) Hiber; their six children andtheir spouses, and 13 grandchildren.
