John was born on April 23rd, 1884 in Crystal Brook.  John's father was Kendrick Alfred Turner and his mother was Rachel Abercromby.  His paternal grandparents were John Browning Turner and Jane Atkins. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Kendrick, Ellen, Catherine and Rachel.  He was the youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 72 on August 9th, 1956 in Adelaide.
