Gay Liang's father was Ing Tjiang Liem and his mother was Gampang.  His maternal grandparents were Ing Hien Kwee and Bini Tua (Ambarawa). He has two brothers and two sisters, named Gay Bing, Gay Joe, Siok and Bo Tan.
