Zeni's father was Marco Aurélio Monteiro de Barros and her mother was Laura Manso Monteiro da Silva.  Her paternal grandparents were Aurélio de Souza Monteiro de Barros and Francisca (Chiquinha) Domingues Monteiro de Barros. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Newton, José Antônio, Rubens, Clóvis, Antônio, Valter, Glorinha, Zilda, Zélia and Maria de Lourdes.
