  • VIEUSSEUX (Jean-Louis de), General; born at Geneva (Switzerland) on 30 April 1754, died at Paris 1 April 1817. Cadet in the Swiss regiment of Diesbach, 25 August 1773; sub-lieutenant in the 94th infantry regiment (Royal Hesse Darmstadt), 16 June 1776; 2nd lieutenant 8 April, 1779; 1st lieutenant 3 March 1781; served in the Geneva campaign 1782-1783(); captain (2nd grade), 13 September 1786; discharged under the new organisation of 29 March 1791; captain of the 44th infantry regiment, 15 September 1791; aide-de -camp of General Sheldon, 1 March 1792. Was the son-in-law of the Minister Claviere. Adjutant-general lieutenant-colonel in the Army of the Rhine, 18 May 1792; Camp marshal from 1 September 1792 , 15 September 1792; chief of the General staff of Berruyer, encamped before Paris, 8th September; attached to the War Ministry by Pache, 20 October; then returned to t he Army of the Rhine; served in the division of the Upper Rhine; in command of that division in replacement of Falck, 12 August 1793; suspended from duty 26 August 1793; discharged, 6 September, 1793; retired to Bienne (Switzerland); authorised to request his retirement pay, 29 May 1795; received a pension, 31 March 1796; head of the private office of the War minister, 1 November 1807; head of division 1 October 1812 by decision of 4 Sept ember preceding; reinstated Camp marshal on the active list, 12 June 1814; head of division in the War Ministry, 13 June 1815.[MGiunti020527]   Archive: Archives Biographiques Françaises Fiche: I 1026,48
