Antonio's father is Agapito Julio Xavier and his mother is Gertrudes Ferraz de Campos.  His maternal grandparents were Antonio Ferraz de Campos and Ana Carolina Rodrigues. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Baltazar, Pompílio, Afrodísio, Aída, Ermelinda, Leonor, Ana, Matilde and Alzira.
