John was born in 1813 in Walsgrave on Sowe, Warwickshire, , England.  John's father was Joseph Tuckey and his mother was Sophia West.  His paternal grandparents are Thomas Tuckey and Rebecca Philips. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Christopher, George, William, Tamar, Rebecca, Mary and Sophia.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 71 in March 1884 in Rugby, Warwickshire, , England.
