Braidwood's father was John Thomson and her mother was Georgina Robb Thomson. Her paternal grandparents were John Thomson and Margaret Anderson; her maternal grandparents were George Thomson and Ann Streels Smith. She had three brothers and two sisters, named George, William, James, Margaret and Jessie. She was the youngest of the six children. She died at the age of 73 on December 28th, 1950 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
