Gardiner Oliver's father was Henry Stanley and his mother was Catherine Bestwig.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Stanley and Grace Bentham. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Henry and Hannah.  He died in June 1838 in Thanet, Kent, England.
