Gordon was born in 1912 in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England. Gordon 's father was Arthur Malcolm Rayner and his mother was Gertrude Amelia Hill. His paternal grandparents were James Rayner and Catherine Lambert; his maternal grandparents were William Hill and Kezia Ann Baldwin. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Douglas A, David, Kathleen and Constance. He was the third oldest of the five children. He died about 2002 in Church Stretton, Shropshire, England.-
