Alexander was born in 1398 in Cromarty, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland. Alexander's father was Donald MacDonald Lord of the Isles and his mother was Mariota (Mary) Leslie. His paternal grandparents were Iain MacDonald "Good John" and Margaret Stewart; his maternal grandparents were Walter Leslie and Euphemia Ross. He had a sister named Agnes. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 51 on May 8th, 1449 in Cromarty, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland.-
