Margaret was born about 1688 in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland and her baptism took place there on January 7th, 1688.  Margaret's father was Abraham (Abraham Gray The Younger) Gray and her mother was Jeane Peacock.  Her paternal grandparents were Abraham (Abraham Gray The Elder) Gray and Elspet Huntar. She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Abraham, Alexander, Alexander, Margaret and Jean.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.
