Margaret was born in 1679 in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland and her baptism took place there on January 18th, 1679.  Margaret's father was Abraham (Abraham Gray The Younger) Gray and her mother was Jeane Peacock.  Her paternal grandparents were Abraham (Abraham Gray The Elder) Gray and Elspet Huntar. She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Abraham, Alexander, Alexander, Jean and Margaret.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
