Peter was born on July 5th, 1846 in Grange, Banff, Scotland. Peter's father was Peter Grant and his mother was Margaret Currie.  His paternal grandparents were Unknown Grant and Unknown. He had three sisters named Jane, Margaret and Janet.  He was the youngest of the four children.
