Avis was born in June 1766 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, England.  Avis' father was William (Chancellour) Chancellor and her mother was Diana (Dianah) Turner.  Her paternal grandparents were Unknown and Jane (Chancellour) Chancellor. She had a brother and a sister, named William and Ann.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had three half-brothers named James, James and James.  She died at the age of 81 in July 1847 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, England.  She was buried on July 6th, 1847 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, England.
