Ann was born about 1859 in North Perrott, Somerset, England. Ann's father was Jeremiah Brown and her mother was Louisa Unknown.  Her paternal grandparents were George Brown and Betsey Unknown. She had five brothers named George, Samuel, Henry, Robert and Emanuel.  She was the youngest of the six children.
