Robert Borthwick 
Robert was born in 1689 in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland and his baptism took place there on January 22nd, 1689. Robert's father was Sir Archibald Borthwick 16th Lord and his mother was Elizabeth Gillespie. His paternal grandparents were Sir Patrick Borthwick (15th Lord) and Marion Scott; his maternal grandparents were James Gillespie and Jean McLay. He had two brothers and five sisters, named George, John, Elizabeth, Margaret, Hellen, Philadelphia and Margaret.-
